Announcing the IDSA Western Design Dialogue Conference 2012
Seattle, May 4th and 5th.

And now for something completely different! Industrial designers are pushing across the boundaries of other disciplines, bringing their unique perspective, creative thinking and user centered approach to solve various problems.  Today, industrial design is influencing diverse areas such as politics, interaction, music, film, fashion, and business strategy.  

At the 2012 IDSA Western Design Dialogue Conference we will explore how the role of industrial design is evolving and expanding by breaking through the traditional boundaries.  The role of design is changing in within many contexts; corporations, small firms, and the community.  We will hear from creative and inspiring individuals who are utilizing design in the unexpected places.  These will not be the usual suspects.

We are excited to have Paul Wylde as one of our speakers at the conference.


Currently based in Seattle, Paul is founder, CEO and creative director of paulwylde – a brand, innovation and design consultancy that specializes in designing for hospitality. His current clients include Jet Blue Airways, Coca Cola, Hilton Global, Intercontinental Hotels Group, Panasonic Avionics, Connxys Technologies and Solaseed Air. His projects span brand strategy, experience and service design, food and beverage and new product development. Before establishing his own consultancy, he was the first-ever creative director for the Aviation Studio of Teague, where for two years he led a team of 51 in developing aircraft cabin design strategies for Boeing in addition to brand consultancy for a number of international airlines including Gol, South West Airlines, Air Canada, Etihad and Emirates. He joined Teague having spent time in New York City as creative director for Imagination (USA) Inc. There, he led the strategic and creative output of the agency for a number of international clients, including Johnson & Johnson and the airline alliance, One World. Wylde studied product design at Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication before completing a master’s in design at Glasgow School of Art. He is a member of the advisory board of and visiting lecturer to The University of Washington ID and teaches at Syracuse University, The London School of Marketing, Central Saint Martins School of Art and London Metropolitan University.
