I'm excited to announce that we will have Mariana Amatullo, Vice President and Director of the Designmatters Department at Art Center presenting at the IDSA Western District Conference.  Also joining us will be Patrice Martin, Co-Leader of IDEO's social innovation domain.  The conference "Social Impact!" is addressing the question "How can Social Design be Financially Sustainable?"

"Mariana Amatullo founded the college-wide initiative Designmatters at Art Center College of Design, based in Pasadena, California in 2001 with a task force of faculty, chairs, staff and students. In her capacity as the lead of the program, she develops strategic educational partnerships and oversees a portfolio of research collaborations, communication campaigns, exhibitions and publications that enhance Art Center’s commitment to be at the forefront of international design education and contribute solutions to humanitarian issues of critical urgency. Through her leadership, Art Center is the first design institution to be formally affiliated with the Department of Public Information at the United Nations as a non-governmental organization (NGO); and a civil society organization member with the Organization of American States (OAS/OEA). The award-winning and tangible outcomes of the student projects that are developed under the mantle of Designmatters have established the program as an exemplary effort within the landscape of social impact design--uniting educational objectives with highly effective advocacy and action-oriented outcomes." "Patrice Martin, co-leads IDEO’s social innovation domain, where she specializes in using design to improve the lives of people in low-income communities. She works with clients in both the public and private sectors to address large-scale social change through solutions.

Patrice’s experience at IDEO has ranged from seeding innovation in clean water in the developing world to envisioning new approaches to affordable housing and rethinking blood donation in the United States. She has led projects and project teams in the fields of health care, financial services, hospitality, workplace, and education for clients such as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Mayo Clinic, Nike Foundation, Acumen Fund, American Refugee Committee, and Marriott International.
Patrice’s role has shifted and grown since joining IDEO in 2004. Her experience began in human factors and brand strategy and led to an exploration of spatial experiences, designing for community, and systems design. She now focuses on the impact of design in social innovation.
Before joining IDEO, Patrice worked with design-strategy consultancy SonicRim, where she led contextual research to understand the social, emotional, and cognitive issues that inform new product and service innovation. She holds a bachelor’s degree in industrial design from the University of Michigan."  -From the IDEO website
