Creative Director - Cesar Millan

Born in Mazatlán, Mexico, Erick S. Millan’s creative nature has always compelled him to explore new ways of life through design. This passion led him to earn his bachelor’s in architecture from the Southern California Institute of Architecture in 2007. While traveling around the world, Millan had the opportunity to study architecture, urban design and digital arts.

He has exhibited his work in furniture design at the Parsons School of Architecture in New York. Millan has worked with a number of prominent architectural firms in the Los Angeles area, including Touraine Richmond Architects, WROAD, Langdon Wilson, DMJM Design and Doug Aitken. He is currently the creative director for Cesar Millan’s brands, overseeing all product design as well as branding and marketing strategies.

At the IDSA Western Design Conference (Long Beach, CA, April 12-13th, 2013) Erick will be presenting the following talk:

DOG + DESIGN = INSTINCTUAL LIVING

With people now having fewer children and adopting more dogs, our canine companions are becoming the initial mediators in our living choices—but yet there is no real design interest in providing the right tools to fulfill a dog and educate the owners. Demand for dog products is overwhelming, but there is no aesthetic synergy between those products and their larger function in human habitation. Creative choices in this area need to re-focus on the conception and design of products with purpose. This lecture is an investigation and rethinking of how to design products for dogs, with a purpose, working in collaboration with Cesar Millan, The New York Times bestselling author and star of the television shows “Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan” and “Leader of the Pack.”

  Chair and ottoman design by Kelsey Leppek 2022 The industrial design class of Western Washington University 2022 exhibited their final chair design prototypes at HenryBuilt in Seattle, WA, USA. June 10.  A one night only exhibition. This set was made with bent steel tubing and fabric cushions. It was a packed crowd at the first graduate exhibition for WWU ID since 2019. Side chair by Brianna Brown 2022. Bent plywood connection detail. Brianna Brown. Bent plywood chair by Rafer Stromme. The two plywood forms are connected with a cast aluminum form. Shift Divider Screen by Kelsey Leppek and Norman Rockwell 2020 Nobody expected a global virus quarantine, but here we are, trying to adapt our living spaces for homeschooling, class sessions, office meetings, and focused work in addition to everything else that we do at home. We quickly realized that our home spaces and furniture were not designed for these new functions. This spring, the industrial design students of Western Washington University worked on designing new furniture solutions for working at home. And they did it while working from home themselves.
